This classic apple pie is made with a flaky buttery crust and a delicious apple filling sweetened with brown sugar and flavored with warm spices. It's the perfect dessert for any occasion, and will fill your home with the cozy scent of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 6-7 apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp milk
Directions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until dough forms a ball.
- Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Roll out one dough ball and place in a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with apple mixture.
- Roll out second dough ball and place on top of apples. Seal edges and cut slits in the top crust.
- Beat egg with milk and brush over crust.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, until crust is golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
